The Ammonia Water Test kit easily allows for the testing of ammonia levels from 0 to 8 parts per million. Ammonia is the number one killer of tropical fish and is continuously produced by the aquarium from fish wastes, decomposing plants and uneaten food. This salicylate test measures the ammonia levels in both saltwater and freshwater aquariums. Once the ammonia is detected, the appropriate steps can be taken to remove it. To use, fill a clean test tube with five milliliters of water and then add eight drops of solution #1. Next, add eight drops of the second solution and shake the test tube well. Watch and wait for the solution to change color and then compare against the enclosed chart.
